Funny News calls it a tool

But it was employed as a deadly weapon

To me Deadly assault on a Police K9, is no different than a deadly assault on a human officer.

If someone is trying to kill my dog, do I get to shoot him?

No? But he's a member of my family!

What? He's legally property?

Then why the heck should it be any different for the cops?

Police dogs aren't humans, they're dogs.

So when a police K9 dies of heat exhaustion after being locked in a hot patrol car by his handler, will the officer be charged with negligent manslaughter?

Or is it just a dog at that point?

By that logic (and I agree with it) than any police officer who shoots a dog without adequate provocation should be charged with murder (which I totally think should happen).

While courts may view animals as property, if you kill my dog I will shoot you, and not because you killed the dog, but because you have shown that you have both the ability and opportunity to use deadly force, therefore I am now in fear of my life.

Any officer that allows his or her K9 to die from negligence , should be charged just as they would be if they let a human partner die from negligence.

I agree that any officer that shoots a dog without adequate provocation should be charged, and it should not be swept under the rug.

Now if I am negligent in the way I control my dog, and/or the dog attacks without provocation, then it is on me.

Now that being said, we are all free to have our own opinions, and those are mine, and you have your's, and we are free to disagree.

and when a police officer shoots a family dog not acting in a threatening manner, he should be charged with manslaughter.
