She likely felt safer with the cameras
It was said she was murdered last weekend when a crossbow bolt was fired into her head - an act captured on a CCTV camera. Detectives were also investigating whether Blamires' alleged killer ate part of her body after chopping it into pieces
Myself, I'd rather prevent the crime, than record it

Bar carry will still be off limits, and as to car carry right now we have the option of:
1. Holstered on our person
2. Stored in closed glove compartment or console
3. In a closed case in plain sight
4. locked in a case

Bannerman's island castle is a high-walled ruin topped with turrets that looks like it was built to repel catapult attacks. In reality, the century-old structure off the river's eastern shore was a warehouse for bayonets, pith helmets, rifles and other military relics.

Still mad about the Alamo?
"These kinds of guns — the auto versions of these guns — they are not coming from El Paso," Head told Fox News. "They are coming from other sources. They are brought in from Guatemala. They are brought in from places like China. They are being diverted from the military. But you don't get these guns from the U.S."
Calderon, who did not explain why the Mexican homicide rate was lower in 2007 and 2008 than in 2004, also did not mention the machine guns that originate from places like China, Israel and South Africa, or the 2,239 grenades seized in 2007-09 from places like South Korea and Spain.
Whether it's drug violence in Mexico, or street violence in Chicago, the Founding Fathers wrote the Second Amendment with the wisdom of knowing that a well-armed citizenry is the best protection against both criminals and oppressive government.

FBI Crime Data Continues to Refute Anti-Gun Rhetoric
"For many years," Gottlieb observed, "anti-gunners made all kinds of wild predictions that higher rates of gun ownership and the expansion of shall-issue carry permits would leave neighborhoods awash in blood. The data proves otherwise. America should turn its back on the gun prohibition lobby and their insidious policy of victim disarmament."

It's about the children
Rural children at risk too
In most of the states, if not all, you are considered an adult at 18, but this study included "children" as 19 and younger. There is a spike in firearms deaths at 15-24, ages when kids join gangs etc.
In 2006, of all children 1 to 4 years old who died from an unintentional injury, almost 30% died from drowning.

Mayor Daly Believes
So who really believes that terrorists plotting to assassinate government officials are being held back by their inability to legally possess a pistol or rifle in the District?
He believes it works in Chicago, so it would have to work in Washington DC

Washington Times takes on Mexico's President
Mr. Calderon's propaganda aside, Mexican drug gangs are getting real military weapons from within Mexico, countries south of his border and other places around the world. Reports indicate that grenades and rocket launchers in use in Mexico aren't even available for sale in the United States and come from places like South Korea, Israel and Spain. Between 2007 and 2009, 2,239 grenades were seized by the Mexican government, and those weren't from here. Markings similarly show that machine guns in Mexico largely originate from China, Israel and South Africa
While the Washington Post agrees with him

Well not out a 14.5 barrel!
Martin Fackler, a ballistics expert, also defended the 5.56 mm round, blaming the M-4s inadequate performance on its short barrel, which makes it easier for soldiers to scramble out of modern armored vehicles.
"Unfortunately weapon engineers shortened the M-16's barrel to irrational lengths," Fackler said. "It was meant for a 20-inch barrel. What they've done by cutting the barrel to 14.5 inches is that they've lost a lot of velocity."

It is a busy week!
Of course the 21 hours of driving to and from the annual meeting, plus all the walking etc...
Yesterday, I attended Dave Grossman's Bullet Proof Mind seminar, sponsored by the Boone County Sheriffs office these are usually limited to LE & Military, but if you ever get the chance take the time to attend,
He has co-authored a new book: The Warrior Mindset
I really hadn't had time to rest up before heading there and feeling it a bit today. later today, I'll be trying out the "FATS" system, a fellow Instructor has at his school.
Let you know how that goes

Notes from the weekend
Need to buy an Altas, can't alway trust those google routes
Charter Arms says they will have their rimless revolver in production by summer in 40 cal, and 9 mm by fall........we will see
Seems Para USA has already out grown there new digs in Pineville and already looking for a bigger building, as of now they are working out of 2 buildings a few miles apart
It seems that 1911's and AR's are not slowing down a bit, everywhere one turned in the exhibit hall, there was somebody marketing one or the other
Mini ccw guns are popular NAA now features add on's like lazers and even a bayonet option, one company is recreating the Baby Browning, for me these are guns to back up, my back up, but they are popular
Concealment options were abundent one of the newer ones was CCW Breakaways pants that have a storage area for a handgun, not a new concept but interesting
The message, this year from Sarah Palin, to Ollie North, to Glenn Beck, to Chuck Norris, we all need to be active in the mid-term elections, we need to vote.
I need a better plan to cover the whole show, we were on the exhibt floor for a total of 8 hours, and still missed a few things, and and had to hurry past some.
Saturday morning I really meant to attend the seminar on CCW, but by a bit past noon it had slipped my mind
If you are a member you really should plan to attend a meeting, it's well worth the trip.

Record size meeting?
Update: Charlotte reporting 80,000 visitors
The NRA Blog shows how fast the tent comes down, and mentions 70,000 attendees, I'm sure an official number will be released later. We didn't attend on Sunday, but if it was anything like Saturday it may well have broken a record.
The NRA Meeting is more than Charlotte can handle, the Banquet was canceled as they could not find anyone that could handle the number of people that signed up.
By Sunday morning the local news outlets were reporting we had dropped about 25 million dollars into the local economy, which would be about $357 per person.
But even with the spending power we brought to the city, we didn't seem as welcome as we did in Phoenix or Louisville.
Checking into the Motel, the desk clerk told me she hoped I had left my "Six Shooters" at home, the Charlotte Observer mentioned in an editorial that they hoped we didn't shoot them, and the "No Gun" signs were displayed at the entrance to the convention center, and even my mini Swiss army knife had to be checked on Friday at the Time Warner arena.
Charlotte at least downtown is a lovely city, a nice mix of old and new, but not somewhere I'm likely to return.
I also understand the difficultly for the NRA to find places that can accommodate the sheer size of our meetings, but in the future I'll not attend unless the host city will welcome my right to carry, as well as my money

Headline: Welcome, NRA - and please don't shoot!
The city seems a bit overwhelmed by us, we can't carry at the convention hall, and anyone visiting the Time Warner Arena, had to "check" their knife at the door.
So yeah they want our money (est. 20 million will be dropped here this weekend), but not our guns. In the future I do hope that the NRA will find venues that welcome not only our money, but our firearms as well
The number being guessed at is 70,000 will attend, wake up Charlotte, that's 70,000 of the most law abiding people in the country.
If there are any shootings in Charlotte this weekend, they will more than likely be residents of the city, and not members of the NRA
What the Observer does not know about the NRA is apparent in the article, the bias is there, the NRA has never promoted that ether "insane criminals" or 8 year olds can aquire guns.

The New Para "Wild Bunch" 1911
Designed for the new SASS Wild Bunch Division, talked to Jim Finch of Hartley Texas, he is Para's new professional shooter for the Wild Bunch.
Wild Bunch will have 2 classes traditional and Modern, the Para Wild Bunch model, will fit ether category, and likely fit in the "Zoot Shooters" mentioned below. Most "out of the box" 1911's will fit into the modern category with a few restrictions. Which might open the sport up to those that have resisted getting in to Cowboy shooting due to the expense.

Warning PSH Alert:
These rifles were not born this way. Each one has been altered, re-configured and and converted....to kill.
Savvy U.S. felons...acquire the weapons through a straw purchase. For example, someone with a clean record buys the weapon from a gun show or a sporting goods store and then sells it to a criminal on the street who then works his magic to convert it.

'We should be educated'
"Firearms are not inherently good or bad," Smith said. "But if you own one, you have a legal and moral responsibility to know how to operate it.
30-year-old Melissa VanOrtwick, said she wanted to be responsible gun owner. "I think it is up to us to exercise our right to carry. .... And we should be educated."
He said people generally fall into three types: the vast majority are sheep, who do not take responsibility for their own protection by being responsible gun owners.
Wolves prey on sheep. And sheep dogs become trained to use guns when it's necessary to protect themselves or others.
Not everyone can be a sheepdog, Crane said. "Think beforehand. Figure out how or when or if you would use deadly force."

NASCAR Hall of Fame opens in Charlotte
The most difficult item to assemble at the new NASCAR Hall of Fame wasn't one of the mesmerizing touchscreens and interactive displays, but Junior Johnson's rebuilt moonshine still from yesteryear.
The problem was only solved with the help of an expert. A call was placed and Johnson, one of NASCAR's pioneers and a member of this month's first Hall of Fame class, gathered his tools, drove into town and did the job himself.

Chicago is safe now
Yeah right
Fifty-five were assault weapons, 3,335 were handguns and there were 660 fake replicas. 2 paperweights (inert gernades) No questions asked, so if any of those firearms that could be linked to a crime, they won't be now. How many of the firearms were functional? Just another media day of saying see we aren't really doing anything.

"The enemy is denial"
Dave Grossman’s “Five D’s.”
1. Denial — Denial is the enemy and it has no survival value, said Grossman.
2. Deter — Put police officers in schools, because with just one officer assigned to a school, the probability of a mass murder in that school drops to almost zero
3. Detect — We’re talking about plain old fashioned police work here. The ultimate achievement for law enforcement is the crime that didn’t happen, so giving teachers and administrators regular access to cops is paramount.
4. Delay — Various simple mechanisms can be used by teachers and cops to put time and distance between the killers and the kids.
5. Destroy — Police officers and agencies should consider the following:
a. Carry off duty. No one would tell a firefighter who has a fire extinguisher in his trunk that he’s crazy or paranoid.
b. Equip every cop in America with a patrol rifle. One chief of police, upon getting rifles for all his officers once said, “If an active killer strikes in my town, the response time will be measured in feet per second.”
c. Put smoke grenades in the trunk of every cop car in America. Any infantryman who needs to attack across open terrain or perform a rescue under fire deploys a smoke grenade. A fire extinguisher will do a decent job in some cases, but a smoke grenade is designed to perform the function.
d. Have a “go-to-war bag” filled with lots of loaded magazines and supplies for tactical combat casualty care.
e. Use helicopters. Somewhere in your county you probably have one or more of the following: medivac, media, private, national guard, coast guard rotors.
f. Employ the crew-served, continuous-feed, weapon you already have available to you (a firehouse) by integrating the fire service into your active shooter training. It is virtually impossible for a killer to put well-placed shots on target while also being blasted with water at 300 pounds per square inch.
g. Armed citizens can help. Think United 93. Whatever your personal take on gun control, it is all but certain that a killer set on killing is more likely to attack a target where the citizens are unarmed, rather than one where they are likely to encounter an armed citizen response.

"The bill should be titled the Gun Owners Are Probably All Terrorists Act."
First it was the Gunshow Loop Hole
now "The Terror Gap"
"NRA chief Wayne LaPierre should be just a few frequent-flier miles short of a free ticket to Gitmo right about now."
"Deny anyone the right to buy a gun by merely claiming that he or she might be a potential terrorist or appears on some watch list."

Hmm, it's a bit hard to get excited about another "new" 1911, and while I wish Remington well with the new R1 1911, I'm not sure who came up with the ideas on accessories, you have umm 2 sets of grips to chose from, and most are going to use ether Chip McCormick, or Wilson magazines, if they are at all serious, and other than being called the 1911 multi-tool, whats the purpose of it?

Worse of the Worse
OMG, Full autos, cop killer bullets, lions, tigers, and bears oh my!!
Well they didn't pick those up at an out of state gun show, wow that video reminds me of the early 90's all over again. Handgun rounds tearing through trauma plates, and bullet proof vest, 12 gauge slugs busting cement blocks. With the exception of the SKS, it would appear part of the "Iron Pipeline" is plumbed into law enforcement, and of traceable weapons those FA's should be the easy to trace, oh yeah it's the early 90's all over again.

More gun laws would not have stopped gun show suicide
Had the man purchased the gun from a dealer, he would have been required to undergo a background check, but there was no indication he was a felon or had mental health issues, which would have triggered a denial, Smith said.
And had he been denied, Smith and several others said, the troubled man would have found another way to take his life.
"The bottom line is we see so many suicides over the years, and there are any number of ways for that to happen," Smith said.

Pakistani Taliban appeared to claim responsibility
Shahzad is a naturalized U.S. citizen and had recently returned from a five-month trip to Pakistan, where he had a wife
Faisal Shahzad, was taken into custody late Monday while trying to board a flight to Dubai,
So there is no connection to terrorism?
Wait: here is the AG's Duh moment:
But Holder said Americans should remain vigilant.
"It's clear," he said, "that the intent behind this terrorist act was to kill Americans."
Yeah, leaving a car bomb in a public place might be "a Clue" Eric.

Patrick Walsh is an Idiot
He wants to reword the 2nd amendment, and seems to think he has more insight to the Founders intentions than the SCOTUS
However, this ignores the usage of the word "regulate" in which the "rule" refers to the proper operations of a device rather than to man-made laws.
George Mason, one of the Virginians who refused to sign the Constitution because it lacked a Bill of Rights, said: "Who are the Militia? They consist now of the whole people." Likewise, the Federal Farmer, one of the most important Anti-Federalist opponents of the Constitution, referred to a "militia, when properly formed, [as] in fact the people themselves."
Something that was well-regulated was calibrated correctly, functioning as expected.
The distinction between a well-regulated army and a mob is the good order and discipline of the first, and the licentious and disorderly behavior of the latter. G Washington
So the term "Well Regulated" in 1776 seems to have meant "Trained", not burdened with regulations, laws and rules.
By the way Patrick if you have all this "Training" why won't you take the responsibility to defend those you hold dear?

Gun Belts:
No Bull, if you are going to carry a reasonable sized handgun, not only do you need a quality holster, for the firearm, you also need a quality belt to hold it in the correct position. and to be able to carry it in comfort.
Ran across these at the gun show, and their online price is in line with the quality of the belt, and when they attend gun shows they feature a bit of a discounted show special
So if you are looking for a belt, check out Bull Belts
They are really heavy, and stiff, just what you need for CCW
