Sotomayor on Gun Control
Earlier this year, President Obama's Supreme Court nominee joined an opinion with the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals ruling that Second Amendment rights do not apply to the states.
A 2004 opinion she joined also cited as precedent that "the right to possess a gun is clearly not a fundamental right."
Ken Blackwell, a senior fellow with the Family Research Council, called Obama's nomination a "declaration of war against America's gun owners."
White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said Thursday that Obama was "very comfortable with her interpretation of the Constitution being similar to that of his."
The Big Day is Tuesday, although we won't know the ruling until late May

Rapist demands stronger Gun Control (satire)
Philadelphia, PA An unnamed accused serial rapist demanded tougher gun control laws from his hospital bed in suburban Philadelphia earlier today, just hours after being admitted by police for a gun shot wound incurred while attempting to assault a local woman. Lawyers for the alleged rapist charged their client was “the real victim of this assault,” and warned that easy access to legal firearms was “[Making] committing a rape or other violent crime nearly impossible in many suburban areas.”

The Seventh Circuit on Feb. 22 took the rare step of granting a petition for Domestic violence gun ban en banc hearing
Adopting and applying intermediate scrutiny, Judge Diane S. Sykes wrote that the government failed to meet its burden of showing a reasonable fit between its interest in reducing domestic gun violence and total disarmament of domestic-violence misdemeanants

Shooting at Airport
The traveler thought the Glock semi-automatic pistol was unloaded, but there was likely an extra round in the chamber
There are no extra rounds in the chamber, never more than one, this idiot failed to clear it before arrival, lucky he maintained safe direction, but just had to put his finger on the trigger.
"All Guns Are Loaded!"
You never think they are unloaded, you ether know they are loaded, or know they are unloaded.
"Always keep your finger off the trigger until the sights are on target, and you have made the conscious decision to fire"
It is simple just keep your finger outside the trigger guard untill you have decided to fire the firearm.

High court to define reach of gun-control laws
They contend that if McDonald wins, "nearly every firearms law will become the subject of a constitutional challenge, and even in cases where the law ultimately survives, its defense will be costly and time-consuming."

Mo. bill would lower age for concealed-carry permits
Right now, you have to be 23 to get a CCW permit.
One bill in the Missouri legislature would lower it to 21 years old. Another would put the minimum age at 18.

Unless the lower has the same dimensions as a standard lower, and would accept an AR upper, and the fire control is similar or could be replaced with standard parts, of course the ATF once labeled a shoe string as a machine gun.

Don’t Settle For Poor Firearms Training
Take the time to check out your Instructor, look at their certifications, how long have they been involved in training. Ask around see what other people know about them.
One of the biggest markets in Firearms training are CCW classes, and there are a lot of Instructors that became Instructors because they saw $$ signs, and usually only have the certifications, to conduct classes.
An example might be comparing what a "Pistol" Instructor has to offer compared to a "Pistol, PPITH, & PPOTH " Instructor has to offer.
Below is a list of guidelines when shopping for training:
How to decide which trainer to go with:
Does the Instructor have time to discuss the course?
How Long has the Instructor Been Training?
How Often Does the Instructor do Training?
What is the Instructor/Student Ratio in the classroom?
What is the Instructor/Student Ratio on the range?
What % of women does he train?
Does he work with other Instructors?
What will be covered in the Class?
Ask them about his/her Credentials
Can they reference where to find the laws for self defense & concealed carry?
Will he give references?
Ask if they are insured.
Prices can vary, but don't chose a course on price alone!
Not all Instructors are the same, interview them, & see what they offer.
Do they have the knowledge, skills, & attitude you are looking for?
*Cheap Can Be Expensive

Not that they hit him that many times, and he was trying to bulldoze through them at the time, and he did have it coming, but one officer fired 42 rounds, and the average for the rest was around 11 rounds, I can understand the high round count, there were 9 officers firing, but from the sound of the articles, they were having problems hitting his SUV, let alone him...........

I replied "What if there is not time for a two handed grip?"

Interesting case:
State vs Hammock
Machined a bolt to fire a 22l.r. , so even when they can't get guns they can make them.
Of course repeated hammer blows, hacking with a metal object, choking, and suffocating, all resulted in murder. dead is dead, the matter of which of little importance.
It's been said before guns don't kill people, people kill people. In this case the alleged killer was pretty determined

'Lucky' hunter shot through both arms
And they were not hunting, but target shooting
I guess he was a bit lucky that his friend didn't kill him, but I'd only call it lucky if his friend had missed completely.
Also his friend needs a gun safety class, as his "Booger hook was on the bang switch" when he slipped, and he does not seem to have a clear understanding of "Safe Direction".

The files show Anderson told a witness he wanted to get back at Rosenberg by shooting, bombing, stabbing or strangling him.
His wife Bishop, fatally shot her brother in Braintree, Mass., in 1986; the case was declared an accident and she was never charged.
U.S. Rep. William Delahunt, who was district attorney at the time, now says it was a shame Bishop did not receive a mental evaluation after the shooting. He said she was not evaluated because state police working for his office weren't told that after Bishop shot her brother, she allegedly threatened two auto shop workers with the gun, demanding a car, or that she aimed the gun at police.

Current laws not stopping illegal gun epidemic
When police do arrest people with illegal guns in their possession, rarely is the punishment serious.
"Most of the guys we catch with guns end up charged with misdemeanors and plead out for next to nothing," said Richmond Police Chief Chris Magnus.
Well if there is no punishment, there is no deterrent to doing it, so write a couple of more laws that will be ignored.

The first step – in the direction of preparation to avert war if possible, and to be fit for war if it should come – is to teach men to shoot!"– President Theodore Roosevelt

To Unload a Semi Auto
1. Point the gun in a safe direction (at ones self is not a safe direction, refrain from putting finger on trigger during any of the steps)
2. Remove the magazine (that is where all but one of the cartridges should be)
3. Rack the slide 3 times (if more than one round ejects out, see step 2, it is also a good idea to keep hand clear of ejection port)
4. Visually check chamber (just make sure it is indeed empty)
5. Check it again (just to make sure it is really empty)

I've known Ken for around 6 years. He has been involved in the both the Heller & McDonald cases for the Buckeye Firearms Assoc.
He is an Instructor, and he always takes time to respond when I've had questions to the legal aspects of concealed carry. He has and will always be involved in protecting the Second Amendment, We need him on the Board at NRA HQ.

Mas is writing about the size of the handgun, in regard to the shooter. While a lot of trainers approach this subject that one size fits all, give'm all a Glock 19. This does not always work, a few weeks ago I had a lovely lady with MS, and while we tried different guns size and caliber, the only one she could really hold on to was the 22 S&W semi auto.
I recall the very petite lady that came to class with her husband's Glock 21 the only thing touching the back strap was her thumb which was taking the recoil, her trigger finger barely reaching the trigger, and the rest of her fingers were to short to wrap around the front strap, she shot the course with a 22, and then finished up with a Browning HP, which she did pretty well with.
Then there was the guy that did have both thumbs, but only the 3rd and 4th digits on his left hand, lucky he had figured it out before he got to me, it was not something you would see in any pistol video, but he shot quarter size groups very rapidly.
Then I had the student, that when working as a bouncer was shot twice, with a 25 acp, the first round hit him in the center of the chest, the second round hit him in the forehead and ricocheted skyward. he kicked butt on the shooter, finished his shift, went home and extracted the bullet in his chest with a pair of tweezers. He was glad the guy had indeed brought to small of a gun.

The Brady Bunch are getting pretty desperate. After years of embarrassing political failure, they've started making up fake crime reports, attacking Starbucks for allowing concealed carry ... and now crying about Buckeye Firearms Association leaving one little comment on their page, resulting in our Facebook fan page being deleted without warning.
If the Brady Center is intimidated by us now, they're in for a real surprise in the years ahead. Because we're not going anywhere. And they ain't seen nothing yet.

SNOW ACCUMULATIONS OF 1 TO 2 INCHES ARE FORECAST FOR TONIGHT WITH AN ADDITIONAL 2 TO 4 INCHES EXPECTED ON TUESDAY. SNOWFALL TUESDAY NIGHT INTO WEDNESDAY MAY BRING THE STORM TOTAL TO 6 TO 8 INCHES.
Snow blowers are pretty much sold out........
I found 2, both smaller than I wanted, but ether one beats shoveling.
My orignal plan was to mount one on my riding mower, when I purchased the mower (2008)they were $900, when I went to order one they were $2000. (spring 2009)

Good Advice
I certainly don’t want any of my children to die. If their number comes up I want them to go out trying to kill the bastard instead of waiting to be executed under a desk. This may be a crazy idea, but it’s our best chance.
But doing away with unarmed victim zones, would give people a better chance. Just giving active shooters the idea that they might encounter people that are armed, may well deter them.
I agree fight, attack, with whatever you have, but that's the sheepdog in me, but it is a world of sheep, and the human instinct is to ether fight, flee, or freeze. The sheep are too frightened to use the first. We do not teach our kids to fight anymore, we have taught them fighting is bad.
There is a difference between teaching your kids to stand up for themselves, and being bullies.
The author on the link knows LE seldom can stop the shooter, and advises people to fight back, yet admits we don't have the tools to do it.
If the police chiefs would quit straddling the fence, as a group, and advice both the businesses and the politicians that A. they can't keep bad people with guns out of the places that are posted, and B. Licensed armed citizens are not the problem.
Then for the most part the real problem would go way.

Added to my recommended reading list
Patrick wrote the FBI Handgun wounding factors report
While the books focus is LE use of force, there is a lot of info for the CCW people too.
Wound Ballistics, Training Vs Qualification, Physiological Impertives, to name a few, there is also a section on Case Histories.
The more knowledge you have the better.
I can hear the whining now
I know they make a good product, and their product is really no different than anybody else's, but then what's in a name? Well let's look back Winchester Black Talons, were labeled cop killers, but no cop ever died by being shot with one, not one.
It's the perception, of the jury, and how a prosecuting attorney can just make it sound bad. Well surely the jury will understand that's it just a brand name, if you think the jury is that bright, you are counting on a lot.
Ya know if they had chosen a name like Ultimate Defense, it could be a no brainer.
But I can just hear that attorney saying to the jury, "The Accused, shot the victim with EXTREME SHOCK, he/she intended to kill the victim, it's even marked on the casings"
Yes you may still prevail in the court, it's open and shut you say, and there are a lot of jurisdictions that won't care, but if you have that crystal ball to say where your self defense shooting will take place, than you can likely predict when too, and avoid it all together.
You can bring in an expert witness to explain that your choice of ammo was just high quality self defense ammo just like any other, but it is going to cost.
The decisions you make on what you carry, how you carry yourself, may well all have to be defended in court. That bumper sticker "Stop Honking, I'm Reloading" can be used against you, that sticker in the window "If you are found here at night you'll be found here in the morning"
The grips that are engraved "Killem All", it can and likely will be used against you, as a defense attorney once stated it is easier to defend someone that used a Colt Trooper, than it is to defend someone that used a Python.
Just consider your choices, when making them, and how they will be played in court, and that fight, my friends will last longer, and be more stressful than the gun fight.

How about the weather?
on the porch rail, that's well over 6 inches
Guessing around 8 inches, photo later
LEVEL 2: Roadways are hazardous with blowing and drifting snow. Only those who feel it is necessary to drive should be out on the roadways. Contact your employer to see if you should report to work.
Well all my CCW students rescheduled expect one, and I wasn't able to reach him, what are the odds, he'll show up? Of course he will have to make it up the 850 foot unplowed driveway.

From Mike at Acme Ammo
Upon our return, we were greeted by three drums of new Starline .380 Auto brass!!!
Hallalujah!
Once-fired .380 brass is becoming scarce and quite high in price. Many brass dealers are pricing their once-fired brass higher than new brass!
Consequently, we will be able to continue offering our .380 products at $37.74/100 for round nose and $24.53/50 for hollow-points

Coming to a city near you?
Really quite likely if you live in a non gun friendly city, like LA, Chicago, NYC. But even in gun friendly areas where citizens carry guns they could take a toll. They just pick those "Gun Free" zones. Like Ft Hood.
Ohio has plenty of those, being not that far from Cincinnati, I've thought how much damage 10 guys could do if they hit one of the posted Shopping Malls, or the Musuem Center, UC Hospital, and the UC Campus all at the same time. If one looks at the carnage of Ft Hood, just imagine what 10 guys could do before the first responders arrived.
As Dave Grossman says one man with a rifle can pin down a hundred men for 5 minutes, so what could 3 or 4 do?, and to have 3 active shooter sites in the same city at the same time, how would LE respond? The City has a SWAT Team, as does the county but the 3rd would have to handled by regular beat cops. While much better trained that their counterparts in India, will they have the tools and training to prevail?
Grossman suggests the 4-D's
Deter
"Deterrence is the goal."
As an example of a failure to use Deterrence, Grossman citing the example of the school massacre at Red Lake, MN[7], where a young school murderer shot his grandparents with the police-issued weapons he had stolen from his grandfather (a police officer), went to his high school and shot one of two unarmed guards who was manning the front door. "If the guard had been armed, odds are 10 to 1 he'd never have tried," Grossman said.
Those guards were given a responsibility for human lives without the tools to do the job! Never call an unarmed man 'security'. Call them 'run-like-hell-when-the-shooting-starts'.
Armed citizens would also be a deterent
Detect
Every time he bounces off a hard target, it's a chance to Detect.
Delay
The goal is as many hard targets as possible. Once he is in the school, the only question is how many kids die. (Malls Museums, Hospitals, Schools are pretty much soft targets)
Destroy
"We are at war. Our armed citizens and cops are the front line."
Secondly, Grossman reminded officers that "Armed Citizens are the militia.
Integrate concealed-handgun license-holders (CHLs) into your plan. We are at war. The idea that cops can do it all themselves is wrong. Use what is available to you. Integrate them into your plan from the beginning. One or two people in the first few minutes are worth 1000 people hours later."
Saying it can't happen here is Denial, "Denial kills you physical, mentally, and financially. It has no survival value."

Reactions Faster than Actions
People move faster when reacting than when initiating the same movement. But the ultimate outcome is not so simple.
"Twenty-one milliseconds may seem like a tiny difference, and it probably wouldn't save you in a Wild West duel because your brain takes around 200 milliseconds to respond to what your opponent is doing, but it could mean the difference between life and death when you are trying to avoid an oncoming bus!"

Ambushed!
The suspect, a reputed gang member, was waiting in front of the store and keeping vigil for the officers' approach; immediately he turned and opened up with his AK-47 from beneath his poncho and started firing at the two-man unit. In the next few minutes, he killed Sgt. Howard Stevenson, a 20-year veteran who also happened to be the SWAT team leader, and wounded another officer.

Subject: Guts
Published: Sunday, December 13, 2009 Head east from Carthage on Mississippi 16 toward Philadelphia and after a few miles a sign says your in Edinburg . It's a good thing the signs there, because there’s no other way to tell. On June 15, 1919, Van T. Barfoot was born in Edinburg . Probably didn't make much news. Twenty-five years later, on May 23, 1944, near Carano , Italy , Van T. Barfoot, who had enlisted in the Army in 1940, set out to flank German machine gun positions from which fire was coming down on his fellow soldiers. He advanced through a minefield, took out three enemy machine gun positions and returned with 17 prisoners of war. If that wasn't enough for a day’s work, he later took on and destroyed three German tanks sent to retake the machine gun positions. That probably didn't make much news either, given the scope of the war, but it did earn Van T. Barfoot, who retired as a colonel after also serving in Korea and Vietnam , a Congressional Medal of Honor.

What did make news last week was a neighborhood associations quibble with how the 90-year-old veteran chose to fly the American flag outside his suburban Virginia home. Seems the rules said a flag could be flown on a house-mounted bracket, but, for decorum, items such as Barfoots 21-foot flagpole were unsuitable. He had been denied a permit for the pole, erected it anyway and was facing court action if he didn't take it down. Since the story made national TV, the neighborhood association has rethought its position and agreed to indulge this old hero who dwells among them. In the time I have left I plan to continue to fly the American flag without interference, Barfoot told The Associated Press. As well he should.
And if any of his neighbors still takes a notion to contest him, they might want to read his Medal of Honor citation..
It indicates he's not real good at backing down.
Van T. Barfoot's Medal of Honor citation:
This 1944 Medal of Honor citation, listed with the National Medal of Honor Society, is for Second Lieutenant Van T. Barfoot, 157th Infantry, 45th Infantry:For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of life above and beyond the call of duty on 23 May 1944, near Carano , Italy . With his platoon heavily engaged during an assault against forces well entrenched on commanding ground, 2d Lt. Barfoot moved off alone upon the enemy left flank. He crawled to the proximity of 1 machinegun nest and made a direct hit on it with a hand grenade, killing 2 and wounding 3 Germans. He continued along the German defense line to another machinegun emplacement, and with his tommygun killed 2 and captured 3 soldiers. Members of another enemy machinegun crew then abandoned their position and gave themselves up to Sgt. Barfoot. Leaving the prisoners for his support squad to pick up, he proceeded to mop up positions in the immediate area, capturing more prisoners and bringing his total count to 17. Later that day, after he had reorganized his men and consolidated the newly captured ground, the enemy launched a fierce armored counterattack directly at his platoon positions. Securing a bazooka, Sgt. Barfoot took up an exposed position directly in front of 3 advancing Mark VI tanks. From a distance of 75 yards his first shot destroyed the track of the leading tank, effectively disabling it, while the other 2 changed direction toward the flank. As the crew of the disabled tank dismounted, Sgt. Barfoot killed 3 of them with his tommygun. He continued onward into enemy terrain and destroyed a recently abandoned German fieldpiece with a demolition charge placed in the breech. While returning to his platoon position, Sgt. Barfoot, though greatly fatigued by his Herculean efforts, assisted 2 of his seriously wounded men 1,700 yards to a position of safety.. Sgt. Barfoot’s extraordinary heroism, demonstration of magnificent valor, and aggressive determination in the face of point blank fire are a perpetual inspiration to his fellow soldiers.
