GENEVA (Reuters) - The United States has 90 guns for every 100 citizens, making it the most heavily armed society in the world, a report released on Tuesday said.
U.S. citizens own 270 million of the world's 875 million known firearms, according to the Small Arms Survey 2007 by the Geneva-based Graduate Institute of International Studies.

The European Union urged the governor of Texas on Tuesday to halt all executions before the U.S. state carries out its 400th death sentence since reinstatement of the penalty in 1976.
What the hell does the EU have to do with how we run our country, let alone how Texas is run??
I really hope the Governor will tell them where to get off!

School Suspends Boy for Sketching Gun
MESA, Ariz. (AP) - School officials suspended a 13-year-old boy for sketching what looked like a gun, saying the action posed a threat to his classmates.
Administrators of Payne Junior High in nearby Chandler suspended the boy on Monday for five days but later reduced it to three days.
The boy's father, said that when he went to the school to discuss his son's punishment, school officials mentioned the seriousness of the issue and talked about the massacre at Colorado's Columbine High School, where two teenagers shot and killed 12 students, a teacher and themselves in 1999. He said offended by the reference.
Chandler district spokesman Terry Locke said the crude sketch was "absolutely considered a threat," and that threatening words or pictures are punishable.
A sketch is threatening??

In 2006 after the week long UN meeting, on small arms there was some agreement on controlling ammo as opposed to trying to disarm everyone.
Shortly thereafter foreign ammo supplies really dried up.
This year we hear the war effort is spiraling the cost, & China buying all types of metal in the USA.
Or could all this be an effort to disarm us?
Even most gun owners to not keep a lot of ammo sitting around, quite a number have to run to the store before they go shooting, or with indoor ranges buy it when they get there.
Now if we get real, & understand we really only need one fairly large attack or action of some kind, Martial Law could be declared, and you will have what you have.
There will be no running to Wal-Mart to get ammo.
So on August 28th stock up!! (you can beat the Sept price increase)
Yeah go ahead & laugh, I heard it in 92, when I told anyone that would listen to buy Hi-Cap mags. Then in 94 they were not laughing anymore.

On August 28, activists in cities across America will hold a national day of protest to focus attention on the scourge of illegal gun trafficking.
As I said on KABA Newslink Comments:
I'm going to try and start a blog swarm at WarOnGuns to get gun owners to buy a box of ammo on Aug 28--be nice if gun stores would offer some sort of nominal discount or a door prize (no purchase necessary to enter, just to keep things legal) or some such on that day to encourage this--Tuesdays may typically be slow days anyway, so this would get people in their stores and probably work out to their profit.
It'd be nice unintended consequences for the Bradys if we could demonstrate a few percentage points of sales increases on that day because of this.
If gun stores use a door prize incentive, I'd like to see them give away a copy of JPFO's "The Gang," but the point is just to make it happen, not to get caught up in the details of how. We're far enough away to where this won't encroach on National Ammo Day, and it would be a great in-your-face to have our enemies' plans backfire on them.
But here's the thing: It won't happen if it's just me pushing. It will die in obscurity on this blog.
Will YOU take it on yourself to spread the word, to participate, to get this message to your favorite gun store, to post about it if you have a blog, or to ask blogs you frequent to encourage their readers to join in?
As gun owners, we need to buy ammo anyway, and this really will take minimal effort on everyone's part. Or will this just be another "Profile in Apathy," where little is asked and nothing is done?
UPDATE: Looks like the Firearms Coalition thought up a similar idea for the same date. They call it "National Exercise Your Rights Day," and urge us to:

Does this really mean that the loss from the two current conflicts in the Middle East are LESS than the loss of military personnel during Mr. Clinton's presidency? Were we at war?

The common citizen has no need for a gun. Only the police and government officials should be armed so they can keep control. If citizens get out of hand, the police and military need to be able to squelch the uprising as quickly as possible, so keeping citizens unarmed assures order. If people are unarmed, they resist less and are more accepting of government policies that are implemented for their own benefit.
As for the reports of crime being reduced by gun owners, the evidence is clear that hundreds of thousands of people die each year from gun violence, whereas only a dozen or so crimes are thwarted by gun owners. Besides, the stopping of an occasional criminal is not worth the price we pay for an armed society. A hundred rapes, robberies, assaults is still a small price to pay when compared to the cost we incur by the loss of a single life through a gun accident.
Furthermore, most victims of crimes are not killed, whereas gun owners often kill criminals. That is an unwarranted loss of precious human life. The potential loss of money or belongings does not warrant the taking of a life. Likewise, a rape victim is only inconvenienced, and there is no justification for taking the life of someone because they simply embarrassed and humiliated another person.
Guns serve no purpose, and citizens have no right to possess them; only government officials have that right. We can only be assured of our safety if we disarm ourselves completely.
