It is still not about guns, it is about evil.
A family of six die from gunshots :
The man who is accused of ending the Christmas Eve killings by shooting 3- and 5-year-old children in the head
http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2004098104_mcenroe29m.html
Husband beaten severely, Wife & daughters die of smoke:
Petit's wife, Jennifer Hawke-Petit, and their two daughters, Hayley and Michaela, were found dead in the home, said a law enforcement official with firsthand knowledge of the investigation.
http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/07/23/home.invasion.ap/index.html
Man, will do evil, & trying to pass laws controlling the method, might make some feel good but it will, do little if anything to stop such acts.

Well he is right:
One has a moral responsibility to disobey unjust laws. — DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR.
Perhaps CCW'ers should consider this when they see the "NO GUNS" signs?

Such a load of Bull
From the AP: "You just pull a trigger and 20 or 30 rounds come in a second and in those 20 rounds you're sure to hit your intended target and some innocent bystanders, totally unlike a firearm that is just one bullet every time you pull the trigger," Miami Police spokesman Willie Moreno said.
http://apnews.myway.com//article/20071228/D8TQLR181.html
Well if they can shoot "20 or 30 rounds in one second" they have to be full auto, so where are they getting them? As of 1986 you could no longer buy full auto weapoons unless your are law enforcement or military, so if in fact they are "Fully Automatic" weapons they have been smuggled in the US, & that is already illegal.
And well ok in some cities homicides are down & some cities it's up, so it will balance out about the same, & not all homicides are gun homicides.

As the officers approached, police said, the tiger jumped back on top of the man and resumed its attack. The animal then became distracted by the four officers, who were yelling, and advanced toward the officers. All four fired their .40-caliber handguns, hitting the tiger an unknown number of times.

Bad Behavior
"From 2001-2005, about 54 people were killed daily in crashes involving drunken driving in the days surrounding New Year's while about 45 people died a day in alcohol-impaired crashes around Christmas. That compares with an average of about 36 fatalities a day because of drunken driving."
http://www.officer.com/online/article.jsp?siteSection=1&id=39410
So why aren't the Bradys calling for congress to act on this? The could be asking for donations of $45 now & up it next week to $54, then just level out at a $36 donation & have more money than the $32 they are asking for the VT victims

But I guess they think they can......

Of course in England they might pass laws requiring serial numbers on gas cans, background checks on those purchasing gas, but regulation will not stop evil.

Of course they were not allowed to have guns if they lived on campus, guess the BG's didn't see the sign.........................

In Japan you have to be a member of a club, & pass a background check to even own airsoft pistols & the pistols remain at the club, but even in a country with strict gun control the bad guys find a way. If they can't control it on a small island, how can they ever think they could control it in the US of A?

Since the AWB Expired
I have heard that a lot of late, usually after some shooting, law enforcement, a reporter, or an anti will pipe up since the AWB expired this happen.
The SAW ban was enacted on September 13 1994 by PL 103-32, Title IX, Subtitle A, section 110105. The ban made it unlawful to manufacture, transfer, or possess SAWs. The Law defines SAWs as 19 named firearms as well as semiautomatic rifles, pistols, & shotguns that have certain named features. (Named features being flash hiders pistol grips, bayonet lugs to name a few)The ban was codified at 18 U.S.C. #922(v). Saws lawfully possessed on September 13 1994 were not covered by the ban. There also were certain exceptions, such as possession by law enforcement. (SAW's owned or made before before the enactment of the ban were not affected, guns were sold as ether pre-ban or as post ban guns. So a semi-auto version of the AK-47 with a flash hider, bayonet lug, & pistol grip was a pre-ban gun, A semi-auto version of an AK-47 without a flash hider, bayonet lug, & a thumb hole stock was a post-ban gun, see examples below.)
The Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device (LCAFD) ban was enacted along with SAW ban on September 13, 1994. The ban made it unlawful to transfer or possess LCAFD.s. The law generally defined A LCAFD as a magazine, belt, drum, feed strip, or similar device manufactured after September 13 1994 that has the capacity of, or can be readily restored or converted to accept, more than 10 rounds of ammunition. The ban was codified at 18 U.S.C. #922(w) (Note: "manufactured after September 13, 1994", so all those 30 round magazines that had been made for the past 30 plus years were legal, although they did become more expensive, they were easy to purchase.)
So in closing if someone had a pre- ban gun (before Sept. 13, 94) and wanted to sell it he could, but the same gun with some cosmetic changes could also be purchased usually at a much lower price, as the Pre-Bans were considered collectibles. So the guns have not just been un banned( just some of the cosmetic features, and there haven't been any bayonet mounted attacks, as I recall all the public shooting have been in the daytime, so a flash hider, or lack of one has not been a factor, & well without a pistol grip you simply hold the gun in a different matter), & the 1994 AWB has nothing to do with the crimes we are seeing today. The AWB did not prevent a single crime, even the authors of the ban have admitted that.

Inner city crime
"There is a strong desire in some circles to see gun control as the solution to the problems of inner city violence. This has never worked, and this article points out that the cultural problems that have developed in Oakland are so severe that:
Gun laws can't reach places like East and West Oakland. Rarely do boys go get a gun and kill - the gun is already there. Guns are as common as cell phones. Friends give their friends guns for protection after losing a fistfight. Every day, drug addicts trade guns for a fix. Groups of boys share guns, keeping them hidden in abandoned homes, in empty lots, in the rain gutters and under their beds."

Michael Platt had an unsurvivable wound, but he did a lot of damage before it killed him. 80% of the people that get shot fully recover. But the important part is she stopped his attack on innocent people.

"From a distance of about 5 feet, the young gunman, without warning, responded to Officer Lim’s unselfish act by firing his weapon directly into her chest. The bullet struck her with an impact equal to being hit by an 18-wheeled truck doing 60 miles-an-hour. The bullet ravaged her upper body when it nicked the lower portion of her heart, damaged her liver, destroyed her spleen, and exited through the center of her back, still with enough energy to penetrate her vehicle door, where it was later found. Critically wounded, the officer brought up her weapon and fired one round which struck her assailant."

Drunk driving is no accident.
There were 16,885 alcohol-related fatalities in 2005 – 39 percent of the total traffic fatalities for the year.

Wow, beer, wine, & whiskey kill more people in this country every year than guns do!
Why don't we see the do gooders ranting for bans on these deadly products!
Why aren't they calling for more controls on the makers of such dangerous products?

"I've said it before, but it bears repeating: the only thing that will stop an armed attacker on the spot is a person with a gun of their own. Gun haters realize this as well, which is why they rarely ever suggest disarming the police. They, too, rely on the gun to protect themselves from harm--they just feel all high and mighty because they outsource the task."

It can be hard to compare apples to oranges
"Legal historian Richard Maxwell Brown has argued that Americans have more homicides because English law insists an individual should retreat when attacked, whereas Americans believe they have the right to stand their ground and kill in self-defense. Americans do have more latitude to protect themselves, in keeping with traditional common law standards, but that would have had less significance before England’s more restrictive policy was established in 1967."

"The failure of this general disarmament to stem, or even slow, armed and violent crime could not be more blatant. According to a recent UN study, England and Wales have the highest crime rate and worst record for "very serious" offences of the 18 industrial countries surveyed."
But despite, or because, of this, violent crime in America has been plummeting for 10 consecutive years, even as British violence has been rising. By 1995 English rates of violent crime were already far higher than America's for every major violent crime except murder and rape.

1. Lethal force without having to wait, obtain permission, or find the time to break away and notify others (and wait some more!). Already on the books. Don't make malls an exception to this: Include them.
2. Authority is already in place within the citizen. It's time to stop obfuscating it for the privilege of shopping there. One can act with lethal force when facing grave danger. One can come to the aid of another. This is nationwide but for a small few silly and unfriendly jurisdictions. Check your state for silly, unfriendly laws that say you have to run or something. How many of these nine ran?
3. Concealed weapon keeps the aggressors uncertain as to who will respond immediately. The idea is not entirely to dissuade a killer from shooting a mall's patrons – the idea is to stop him immediately. Citizens have that authority. Why hide or discourage it?

Stupid Stupid People
Just when you thought you had heard it all:
MONROE, La. (AP) - A man was sentenced to more than four years in prison for bilking friends and family out of more than $800,000 by convincing them that his wife was a government agent who could arrange to have their medical problems diagnosed by satellite imaging.

Why they go to the Mall
"It's a soft target, a prime target," says Bridgeman. "Malls by their very nature are wide open, they are inviting, easy access."
When you combine that with malls having thousands of people –all potential targets under one roof – and the fact that most security guards are unarmed, malls can be a downright dangerous place. "

More on Omaha
"She told the Omaha World-Herald that the night before the shooting, Hawkins and her sons showed her an SKS semiautomatic Russian military rifle — the same type used in the shooting. She said she thought the gun belonged to a member of Hawkins' family. She said she didn't think much of it — the gun looked too old to work.
Records in Sarpy and Washington counties showed Hawkins had a felony drug conviction and several misdemeanor cases filed against him, including an arrest 11 days before the shooting for having alcohol as a minor. He was due in court in two weeks."
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071206/ap_on_re_us/mall_shooting
Well he didn't acquire the gun legally, as he had a record. The SKS , (may have been a semi auto AK, seeing articles listing both) was not part of the 94 assault ban, The Russian SKS's were all 10 shot rifles, & would have to be altered to hold more than 10 shots. This guy had no respect for the law, alcohol & drug use, several misdemeanors, & acquiring a gun under disability. Since he was hellbent on suicide, I really can't see how stricter laws could have prevented it. You know; "Well you'll really be in BIG trouble if you take that gun to the mall"
But the anti's will cry foul, & the mall will tell everyone they can "Feel" safe, as the have unarmed security guards, & cameras, perhaps they could get TSA to install metal detectors.

Another Gun Free Zone?
OMAHA, Neb. - At least one person was shot Wednesday at a busy Omaha mall, and police locked down the shopping center while they searched for a gunman.

8 dead (9 if you count the shooter) several wounded, took police 6 minutes to respond,
When you put sheep in a pen unprotected, & the wolf comes, the sheep are going to die, it is as simple as that. Allow a Sheepdog to be around the sheep he may just save some, but the sheep are frightened by the Sheepdog, as much as they are frightened by the wolf.
The Sheepdog may nip you, but the wolf is just going to kill you.

Assault Rates
All the anti's like to cry wolf due to the number of homicides in the US, from firearms. A recent UN report posted that the US had 270 million firearms, more than any other country, & more per capita than any other country. So it would stand to reason that since we have more guns than anybody else we would indeed have more homicides with firearms.
But really the homicide rate has stayed fairly steady since 1959, at about 6.5 per 100,000.
But in the last 50 years medical care has vastly improved, better hospitals, better treatment, better medicines, trauma units.
Even if you are badly wounded, if you are transported quick enough your chances of survival are really pretty good.
So if we really want to see where crime is going, look at the assault rates, & not the homicide rates for example:
USA 7.569/1000 assault rate
England 7.459/1000 assault rate
http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/cri_ass_percap-crime-assaults-per-capita
Here is another example:
Minnesota
Homicide Rates Aggravated Assault Rates (per 100,000)
1960..1.2....................... 10.6
1970..2.0....................... 51.2
1980..2.6...................... 102.9
1990..2.7 ..................... 176.7
2000..3.1..................... 156.7
2001..2.4..................... 141.1
2002 .. 2.2................... 141.4
2003..2.5..................... 142.0
2004..2.2..................... 146.1
2005..2.2..................... 158.9
2006..2.4..................... 172.6
http://www.disastercenter.com/crime/mncrime.htm
Minnesota has a fairly low crime rate but you will find the same types of increases in most of the states. The Homicide rate has increased, but not at nearly the same rate as Assaults, if we had the same Hospitals, skilled doctors, etc as we had in 1960 the Homicide rate would be much higher.
So although many say England has lower "Gun" crime, chances of assault are about the same as the USA, so anytype of gun ban is not going to lower the crime rate, it's only going to change the method.

Toad Venom?
"Toad smoking," which is a substitute for "toad licking," is done by extracting venom from the Sonoran Desert toad of the Colorado River. The toad's venom - which is secreted when the toad gets angry or scared - contains a hallucinogen called bufotenine that can be dried and smoked to produce a buzz.

It appears one killed with the machete, two of the gunshot victims are expected to recover.
(From FBI reports you have an 80% survival rate if shot, but it drops to 30% when edged weapons come into play.)

"Armed America"
Written by Clayton Cramer
Finally got around to reading this book, & while a bit dry, Cramer does keep it fairly light & moving. Gun owners do owe the author some gratitude, for the number of endless hours he spent just in the research. Although he would likely settle on you purchasing a copy.
I'll have to say for years I pretty much "assumed" what is in the book, but now I "know".
In the years preceding the birth of our new nation, the country was pretty much awash in firearms, as it remained for many years. Being Armed is the American way, & Mr Cramer has provided excellent material to strength the debate on the Right to be armed. Recommended reading.

The Founders knew of multi-shot firearms!
and they came in fifty caliber
http://www.dave-cushman.net/shot/ducksfoot.html
Those who could afford it, could also own field guns:
http://www.americanrevolution.org/artillery.html
The founders also knew of rapid fire rifles
http://www.nps.gov/history/history/online_books/hh/22/hh22m.htm
Although after the Bill of Rights had been signed, President Thomas Jefferson had knowledge of arms that fired up to 22 rounds per minute!:
Air guns appear throughout other periods of history. The celebrated expedition headed by Lewis and Clark (1804) reportedly carried a .42" (10 mm) reservoir air gun, believed to be produced by Girandoni. It held 22 round balls in a tubular magazine mounted on the side of the barrel. The butt stock served as the air reservoir and had a working pressure of 800 PSI. The rifle was said to be capable of 22 aimed shots in one minute.

Being men of vision, being able to forge a new country, they surely had the vision of technical advances (if not the know how) in all walks of life.

England has strict gun controls
USA has the Right to Keep & Bear Arms
USA .0046 crime rate Britain .419 crime rate
So if we install millions of cameras, enact strict gun control laws we could be just like Britain.

Man Takes Hostages in NH Clinton Office
Nov 30, 2:10 PM (ET)
ROCHESTER, N.H. (AP) - A man claiming to have a bomb was holding one or more hostages at Hillary Clinton's campaign office Friday, police said.
The man had what appeared to be a bomb strapped to himself, said Bill Shaheen, a top state campaign official. The two hostages were volunteers, Shaheen said.
Clinton was not believed to be in the office at the time.

The news stated, that Hillary was very calm, during the ordeal, & why not? she wasn't there!
Let's see if this leads to calls for more gun control, after all she may claim there was an attempt on her life.................

If you will not fight for the right when you can easily win without bloodshed, if you will not fight when your victory will be sure and not too costly, you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a small chance of survival. There may even be a worse case: you may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves. — Winston Churchill

Guns on college campuses would create chaos
"The truth actually lies polar-opposite with Students for Concealed Carry on Campus' claim. People can't fight fire with fire. Adding more guns to the equation doesn't create a more peaceful environment - campuses will instead be more prone to violence.Guns being permitted on school grounds could have detrimental repercussions, including accidental firings, gun thefts and an increased risk of violent behavior because of provocation by peers or professors.School should be a safe haven where students feel comfortable and secure; however, it's also a culprit of anxiety, experimentation and, therefore, impulsivity. Stress, frustration and guns don't make a mix to take a chance with."
http://media.www.thedailyaztec.com/media/storage/paper741/news/2007/11/29/StateofMind/Guns-On.College.Campuses.Would.Create.Chaos-3121474.shtml
The sheep are at it again, my response:
"FEELING" Safe & "BEING" Safe are two different things. Responsible armed citizens are not a threat to peace & safety. If they can continue to get weapons on airplanes, how are you going to keep them off of a wide open campus? They didn't need scanners at Columbine, they came in shooting. Scanners, cameras & written rules will not stop anyone who is determined to do harm, Period. Can you find a school shooting, that the police could arrive in time to stop them, before they had killed students? It takes seconds to dail 911, & the police are only minutes away, what will you do while you are waiting, beg for your life?
So how do you propose to deter a shooter?, & give the readers something besides "pie in the sky" ideas. How do you plan to handle an active shooter once he is in your face?
When dealing with a homicidal manic, perhaps the only choice is "Fight Fire with return Fire".

KHARTOUM, Sudan (AP) - British teacher Gillian Gibbons was convicted of insulting Islam for letting her pupils name a teddy bear Muhammad and sentenced to 15 days in prison and deportation from Sudan, one of her defense lawyers said Thursday.
Speeding or DUI could well be fatal...........
The agency reports that some chanted: “No tolerance: Execution,” and “Kill her, kill her by firing squad.”

I love the title
Since they don't need more, how many do they have?
Since the article was posted without comment, mine are in blue Colleges do not need more guns on campus
We would all agree that this nation has seen its share of horrific moments where a person with a gun has taken far too many lives at high school or college campus.
No one wants to see that happen, and we all want our schools to be as safe as possible.
But, we are concerned about the recent news of a non-partisan group called Students for Concealed Carry on Campus.
More than 8,000 students nationwide have joined the group believing the best way to prevent such incidents is more guns.
The group is arguing that students and faculty already licensed to carry concealed weapons should be allowed to pack a weapon on campus.
Every state, but Illinois and Wisconsin allow residents some form of concealed handgun carrying rights.
But many states forbid license-holders from carrying weapons on school campuses, while in states where the decision is left to the universities, schools almost always prohibit it.
Utah is the one exception to that rule.
While we understand that many believe that carrying a weapon is a basic right of self defense, we are concerned about the idea of college students carrying weapons.
Most will argue that carrying guns is needed to protect against massacres such as what happened at Virginia Tech.
We're not so sure.
First, unless everyone is carrying a weapon, not everyone will be safe.
Not everyone needs to be armed to be safe, if arms were allowed everyone would be safer, the fact that some might be armed would likely deter an attack.
It will take time before the rampage is revealed and and the gunman found. That's why the police, never get there in time, & when they do arrive it's all over.
People will get hurt and while some may argue it would be less people, we're not so sure.Better leave everyone defenseless than take the chance of someone getting hurt.
A person wanting to inflict massive harm will find ways to do so unfortunately, regardless of the circumstances.
This is true, so since it might happen anyway, there is no reason to take any measures to stop it.
Secondly, we hope their aim is good. What happens if they hit an innocent bystander in the panic that such situations likely create?
That could happen, so it would indeed be better to keep everyone unarmed, so they have no choice but to be victims, I would much rather just standby & watch 32 people be executed, than take the chance one might get hurt, by my actions.
And, suppose they do stop the gunman. Are college students really emotionally ready to handle the idea of wounding or perhaps killing someone, even in a situation such as that?
Are any of us really?
No emotionally we are much better prepared to do nothing, & just say bad things happen, I'm sure most people would rather be killed or injured, than live with the fact that they killed a madman. You are right much better to die, than live with guilt. Although most people entering the military are the same age, what makes them emotionally ready to handle it?
While self-defense is a good idea, there are many other situations in college where a gun isn't a good idea.
There are many situations in life where a gun is not a good idea, but they are a great idea when you are being backed into a room & some crazy person is killing everything in sight.
College is an emotional time for students. There are also the issues of alcohol and drug use. In these situations, do we really want students having guns?
Life is an emotional time for people!, All these issues happen in the outside world too. That's really why not everyone needs to be armed, those that choose to do so, tend for the most part to use some common sense. I know most of the students leaving home for the first time are really just overgrown kids, but there are young adults that are far more mature than the majority. But the Staff is also prevented from carrying on campus, are they emotional also?
We've already read, or in our case covered, far too many stories where situations have gotten out of control and a weapon was used to settle a matter - in the worst way possible.
That's because they have not been allowed, so that's why you never see them used in the best possible way.
We understand that college students may be concerned for their safety and we would urge universities and schools to do all they can to make campuses safe.
Yes they should be safer, look at those that are licensed as just one part, of making the entire system safer. Remember it takes seconds to dial 911, & the police are only minutes away.
So for those that live off campus, they should give up their rights when they enter the universities?
We're just not sure that guns is the right way to go in this case.
Guns may not be the best, do you have a better one than prayer?

Carbon Footprints
From the Canada Free Press today: "You'd never read this in the mainstream media: The owner of MS Explorer that sank, leaving a huge carbon footprint at the bottom of the Antarctic Ocean Friday is an acolyte of teensy-weensy carbon footprint crusader Al Gore. G.A.P. Adventures CEO and Explorer owner, Bruce Poon Tip and Gore have similar ideals, 'filling their schedules with speaking engagements on environmental change to educate global audiences.' And that’s straight off of their website. In fact, as recently as last April, both Poon Tip and Gore gave presentations at the Green Living Show in Toronto. 'I expressed my admiration for Mr. Gore’s commitment and leadership which spans more than 20 years,' commented Poon Tip. 'I also invited him aboard our legendary polar expedition ship, the MS Explorer to visit the Arctic.' The legendary polar expedition ship... 'had at least five faults at its last inspection,' according to Greenpeace spokeswoman Bunny McDiarmid. 'Maritime records show the MV Explorer--'" anyway, it was a bunch of eco-warriors. I was exactly right. There were 154 passengers, and a lot of them were eco-warriors, and they were out there doing a global warming cruise.

"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

Now that's news!
From the AP:
WHITEWOOD, S.D. (AP) - If the Rev. David Baer has his way, the Whitewood City Council will change the name of one of the northern Black Hills town's streets.
Hooker Street doesn't quite lend itself to a family atmosphere and is offensive to some residents in the town of about 800 people, according to Baer.
It's actually named after a Union general from the Civil War, but Baer said that even renaming it to General Hooker Street might not be much better.
I have heard that's the General was very fond of the working ladies

JANUARY CARBINE RELEASE. Inspection & Repair and grading of M1 carbines is progressing faster than planned. In addition to the January 7, 2008 scheduled sale of carbines manufactured by Winchester, CMP will also accept mail orders for carbines manufactured by Quality Hardware and Rockola. For operational reasons, we have set a limit of one carbine per customer for each of these manufacturers until further notice. A small quantity of these carbines will be available at both CMP stores beginning January 9, 2008, while quantities last. For additional details, please see http://www.odcmp.com/rifles/carbine.htm
CARBINE BARRELED RECEIVERS AVAILABLE JAN 2008. Inland, Underwood, Winchester, Quality Hardware, and Rockola barreled receivers will be available beginning 7 Jan 2008. These items are what remains from our I&R operations. These are stripped barreled receivers, but may contain either a front or rear sight or Type 3 front bands. All of these barrels are considered unserviceable for either internal or external rust, pitting, significant wear, or failing to headspace. These barreled receivers are sold as-is with no exchange or refund allowed. For additional details, please see http://www.odcmp.com/rifles/carbine.htm

Today, we need a nation of Minutemen, who are not only prepared to take arms,
but citizens who regard the preservation of freedom as the basic purpose of their daily lives,
and who are willing to consciously work and sacrifice for that freedom.
