Here in SC, if you have a Concealed Weapon Permit, you just fill out the 4473 (make sure you answer the questions correctly), show the permit and they give you the gun. No background check required. So, a lot of purchases in this state aren't counted in the numbers.
Granted, they haven't been tallied in for some time now so comparisons with past years aren't impacted by this.
