ID TARGET BEFORE FIRING!

Keeping a flashlight with the home defense gun, would have been a good idea, also using a verbal warnings (IE: "Get out of my House!", I have a gun I will shoot!")
Just having a firearm is not enough, training is the factor, and with training there is less of a tendency to panic, and fire blindly.
