The problem is not with the availability of guns (or ammunition). While training is important, and should be encouraged--I remember having to take a hunter safety course that included firearms safety when I was in high school. That doesn't happen anymore, does it.The real issue is the willingness of individuals in our modern society to use violence to solve problems. Dave Grossman is right--we've desensitized our society to the point we don't abhore violence. All the emphasis in the media on violence--whether it be in the nightly news reports, evening TV shows, the movies, or in rap music--we have created the subliminal message that violence is entertainment. This is the problem we need to solve, and taking away guns, ammunition, knives, etc. is not going to solve it!
Yeah and Criminals won't take the training, and they will still get guns and ammo. But when they pick the wrong victim, they may well find there is a price to pay for being desensitized, and often the solution to violence is Counter Violence
