NEWS RELEASE
Sotomayor Nomination an Obama Slap at Second AmendmentBELLEVUE, WA – The nomination of Second Circuit Court Judge Sonia Sotomayor to replace retiring Justice David Souter on the U.S. Supreme Court is a slap at gun rights and the Second Amendment, the Second Amendment Foundation said today.Judge Sotomayor, a New York native, ruled on a Second Circuit Appeals Court panel that the Second Amendment is not a fundamental right and does not apply to the states in the case of Maloney v. Cuomo. This ruling is in direct conflict with a Ninth Circuit Court ruling in the Nordyke v. King case in California that the Second Amendment is incorporated through the due process clause of the Fourteenth Amendment.“While Democrats in Congress have been making great strides in the gun rights arena, refusing to consider a renewal of the Clinton gun ban, and offering overwhelming bipartisan support for legislation allowing citizens to carry firearms in national parks, President Obama just demonstrated that he prefers judges who oppose Second Amendment rights,” said SAF founder Alan M. Gottlieb.Incorporation may be taken up by the high court during its next session beginning in October, because attorneys in the Maloney case plan to appeal in late June.“If the Maloney appeal is accepted by the Supreme Court,” Gottlieb wondered, “would Justice Sotomayor – provided she is confirmed – recuse herself from deliberations?”Judge Sotomayor has written an opinion that declined to order the release of certain information under the Freedom of Information Act. In one case, according to SCOTUSblog, she wrote that the “unwarranted invasion of privacy” for individuals whose names would be release under an FOIA request outweighed the public interest.“Would a Justice Sotomayor be just as protective of the privacy rights of concealed carry permit holders if a newspaper wanted to publish that information,” Gottlieb asked. “We hope that during Senate confirmation hearings, someone asks about her positions on incorporation and the privacy rights of gun owners. The Second Amendment needs to be expanded, not eviscerated.”

Well...I wouldn't work there unless I was armed

I seldom go unarmed here at home, put me in a war zone, I'd want it & not complain one bit.

House Cleaning

My upstairs, is a sort half finished area, & we really have only used it for storage, & when something gets in the way it is taken up there & stashed. Well it had gotten to the point of a couple of narrow pathways, one from the stairs to the other end, well almost to the other end, & one branching off to where I store ammo.

Well yesterday after a frutless search for some wrenches, I decided to make space, so hit it this morning, lord how much useless crap can one collect?? Although there have been some cool surprises, like finding 1200 hundred rounds of 9mm I didn't know I had.

The job is no where near done, but I did open up some space to sort things out, & will be an on going project for awhile. Of course have not found the wrenches yet................
Last weeks Trip

We got through all the TSA with no problem, but we did plan a bit ahead, & made sure we didn't carry anything on that would cause a problem.
Suppose to leave Dayton at 4pm, 30 minute delay, we only had a hour in Denver, now shortened to 1/2 hour, but the gates were close together, got to Phoenix got the rental , & headed downtown, we noted the lack of even fast food places, found the motel, & asked directions for food, which we didn't really get, but did find an open MC Donalds, when I saw the sign "no bed rolls allowed inside", I told Jim lets get it to go, lot of strange birds inside & out, & my 1911 would have felt very comfortable at the time, Friday morning we of course were still on Ohio time, so we were up at like 4am, drove to the convention center, & signed in Jim decided to bump up to Benefactor member, so while we waited for show to open, we spend some time & money at the NRA store, & found the pressroom, & I finally got to meet Bitter, the girl does a lot of work for the bloggers. The show was great & & it's posted below, around 4 headed back to the airport, & flew back to Denver for our connection to SLC, well there was an hour & half delay which got us in pretty late, so we threw the luggage in the back of the rental, & going from memory of looking at the map, found the motel, it would have helped if the road we were looking for was the same as the street sign, we got in the room about 2 am Utah time, & by 5 am we were moving about.
At least the Hampton Inn had a good breakfast, as we had eaten at the convention, & at the airport in Phoenix. The Utah CC Instructors class was very good, but I can't see why we need to attend it every three years. They had left the class ending time kinda of open so we didn't fly out till 5pm, which means we sat at the airport for a while, although SLC airport was cool, in that they did provide smoking rooms. Got to Denver and had the 3rd delay, no flight crew, so we cooled our heels & got into Dayton around midnight. We covered a lot in 55 hours.
No Assault Rifles??

Final Numbers

Bitter has them, & she really should know she was in attendance all the way through the Board Meeting on Monday. I had hoped they would be higher, & early reports seemed it would be, but I suppose the numbers I caught here & there didn't add up in the end, perhaps someone was counting entries to the show, & not the number of members in attendence.

Tactical Weekly

"Just returned from the NRA Show in Phoenix, it was bigger and better than ever. The turnout exceeded predictions by 30%. Membership is increasing, are you a member? They are doing fantastic work and we are going to need them to continue as we move forward as a country. Support the NRA! "
Stay safe.

Outstanding numbers!

I read that 43K at meeting on Friday, an additional 30K on Saturday, so it could well top 75,000. In Louisville which as I recall was the record they had 65K in 3 days the Phoenix meeting should send a message that Americans will not be disarmed

Friday, turns out I didn't read it, it was on a morning news program in SLC

Most of the news from Phoenix
PARA-USA

Spoke to Kerby, & he says they are in the last stages of bringing all production to the US.

The PARA rifle is still about the coolest AR type rifle out there, & I'm putting one on my wish list.

They offer a solid line of 1911 handguns, & offer them in different calibers pretty much across the board, since I think the 1911 in 9mm is one of best things since sliced bread, & the PARA LTC is the cream of the crop. I'd even like a single stack long slide in 9mm if they offered it

Everybody says they want to shoot like Todd Jarrett, & it's funny the guy has no secrets, if you listen to him, & apply it, it works. (No it does not come easy you have to work at it, since last August I've seen my shooting improving, but only when I keep the old bad habits out of the mix.) He is a true gentleman, & he seems to have no airs. Para has a true winner, like their guns, with Todd as their spokesman. I got to talk to him a bit, & he may be offering more training in the not to distant future. Stay tuned.
NRA Annual Meeting 2nd post

I defer to Mike Bane he is there for the whole thing, as he there for the whole show ( he echoed that nothing much will likely happen until after the mid term elections)

Really if you have never been, plan to attend one in the upcoming years
NRA Annual Meeting 1st post

I'd have to guess it was bigger than Louisville, the crowds were a lot bigger. Last year I was there saturday & sunday & it seemed to be a lot more people in Phoenix on friday. I could only be there Friday as I had to attend the Utah Instructor course on saturday in SLC.

The not big news item was Ruger unveiled their new AR rifle,

Anymore everybody makes an AR, I would guess the bigger question is why hasn't Winchester brought one out, wouldn't be all that hard since FN already makes them here in the US, how hard would it be to emblazon the Winchester logo on an AR-15 lower??

Keeping Busy

Getting ready to head out to the annual Meeting & then onto Salt Lake City for Instructor CCP course.
It is going to feel weird not carrying, But from Dayton on Thursday to Phoenix, via Denver, Friday Phoenix to SLC via Denver, & then home via Denver on Saturday. So the whole thing began to look like a hassle.

I'll likely not post until I get back

Well have much to do , I'm off & running

Interesting Comparison at American Thinker
Some days...

Just go right, shot the Para-USA Gun Blog 9 Saturday during an Instructor course, and impressed even myself.

We also tried the "Pit Bull Drill" on Sunday & it was interesting, if you don't hit it till it's close you get showered by the bottles contents, I manged to hit the back of the bottle, & stayed dry but a couple of guys took real showers. It's a fast paced drill & sights are not an option.

I've seen much todo about this
With nearly 70,000 Instructors in the country, & as much is done to prevent them, accidents will happen from time to time. It happens in law enforcement, the military, & in the private sector. But the fact we do have trained Instructors has reduced accidental shooting by a large percentage, but the trainers are human too, & humans have accidents from time to time, plain & simple. The American pastime can be lethal too

Message from The Hall
You were with me to the very end and even after I had "gone" you held me, and as my soul left my body and the Valkyrie carried me away I looked down and saw you crying.

I wanted so much to tell you that I understood. You did this for me. I wanted you to know I was not gone; I have just gone to another place.

I tried to tell you in my own way that it was time for me to leave, and I thank you for understanding. No other will take my place, but those I left behind will need your love and affection as I have had.

You still think of me, and there are times you try to hide your tear-filled eyes....but please...be happy and think not of sadness, but of how we lived laughed and loved.

I met my brothers, and took my place, banging sword on shield, feast & fight

There are no barriers in Valhalla, so we live life free

There are no sheep in Valhalla, therefore fear is never present.

We war, we fight, we live & die, and are reborn in Valhalla.

There is no hunger. There is no thirst. We of Valhalla have adventure.

We have no seasons in Valhalla, and it’s always fair here.

So you see, my loved one, I am very happy, here with my brothers of the sword
.
When it comes time for my friends to leave, I will meet them at the gates of Valhalla, and I will acquaint them with this place of ageless courage and strength
Thank you for loving me, caring for me, and having the courage to let me go with dignity.

Rest well Al you were gone to soon

CCW license much like ammo

Utah is behind on processing, they have been overwelmed as of May 6th they are processing early Feb. applications. They state expect 70-80 days after check clears to get license.

From a student:
Thought I would pass along some info about the Utah permit. I took your class back in March. Sent in the paperwork right after that. Called to check on the status yesterday. First question the lady asked me was what date did my check clear my bank. Then she said they are running about 70 to 80 days after the check clears my bank, and that they were just now getting around to the ones from early February. Well, I checked for the date, they held my check for a month before submitting it for processing, it cleared here on the 15th of April.. So their statement of have to issue within 60 days is way wrong. Just thought you'd like to know.
CheersDoug

1000 rounds $1000

Now I thought that was high for .223 but Uncle found one that tops them all!
Ditched project

Awhile back, I traded for a Kimber Custom II, in 38 Super, was going to convert it to 9mm, but it seems none of the local smiths wanted any part of it.
One told me it was not possible to put a 9mm barrel in a 38 Super Government Slide, as no one made them, I pointed Fusion made one, but he he said it wouldn't fit a Kimber.
The second guy I talked to told me I really should consider taking up reloading rather than switch calibers, when I told him I had no interest in the 38 Super, he told me I should then convert it to 45 ACP, & reload for that, & pointed me to a couple of reloading dealers to get the equipment.
While I admit one can save money reloading, I still have no strong interest in doing so, & if I were it would be a Dillion 550 or bigger so I could crank them out at fairly high speed. As I much more interested in shooting, than I am reloading.

While at the show I spotted a Kimber Custom Target in Stainless in 9mm, & worked a trade. It was a bit of loss, but now I have what I wanted in the first place without the hassle, now I'll check & see what Esmeralda has in some nice grips for it.
