As you say where there is a will
There is a way, but if gun control would lower the suicide rate, how do you explain this they have some of the best gun control laws in the world.
There you go using that word
Need, again
In truth you are somewhat right no one "Needs" an AK47, but is not about need. It is about Rights, and wants. I do not need, have or want an AK47, I prefer the AR15 platform, and the Classic Fn Fal, but since you folks don't know the difference between a the 3, I'll stand with those that own AK's in letting you know, it is not about "Need", but about "The Right of the People"

I'd say fantasy world
The Second Amendment is not about self defense or hunting, those are just side benefits, and it is your responsibility as a citizen to own guns.

Yep our Homicide rate is higher than your's even if you do not count the guns
But your Assault rate is 3 times (796/100,000), as high as our Assault rate (252/100,000)
Those of us that carry the proper tools, do not live in fear.

Jason Bourne, Jack Bauer, & Bruce Wayne are fictional characters
I'm not, and I dam sure practice and train more than 99.9% of the police ever think about.
Since none of us were there, it is hard to say if any individual could have done anything, some said he was only a couple of feet away, and perhaps someone could have done something, but no one did, had there been an armed defender there may have been a chance, or they could have gotten tagged in the first volley of fire.
There are those that say no one could have done anything, and those that say they could have stopped the guy, but since none of us were there, none of us know.
Too many variables, to consider to "know" what one would have or wouldn't have done. but that said we saw the senior citizen stop the armed robbery at the internet cafe, and it was his willingness to engage, that made the difference.

Science
Kawachi points out that it is impossible to prove whether one factor caused the other, but the most reasonable interpretation is that people who don’t trust their neighbors are more likely to think guns will provide security. In this way the number of guns and the number of homicides both stem from the same root, suggesting that guns don’t cause murders anymore than cars cause fatal accidents. This was also the conclusion of a policy paperconducted by the London-basedCentre for Economic Policy Research in 2005 that found no support for the argument that more guns cause more homicides. “The appearance of such an effect in past research,” wrote the authors, “appears to be the product of methodological flaws.”
What they said it is more than one factor, and controlling guns will not control violence

An Armed America is safer
Than say someplace like Chicago
I did agree with his statement:
I never lost sight of the responsibility of carrying a weapon. Despite what many people think, it’s not something to be taken lightly.

Chicago has all kinds of gun control, and has held the state of Illinois hostage, yet they have as many 100 people shot a weekend. They have more thugs carrying guns than Somalia war lords, gun control kills.
Thomas Paine describing Chicago:
"... arms ... discourage and keep the invader and plunderer in awe, and preserve order in the world as well as property.... Horrid mischief would ensue were (the law-abiding) deprived the use of them."
Thomas Jefferson on "No Gun Zones"
"The laws that forbid the carrying of arms are laws of such a nature. They disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes.... Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man."

Fewer people buying more guns
So a 41% increase in sales, and a lot of new customers, basic classes filled
Bet is wasn't just in Colorado, and it is an ever expanding group buying guns,
nearly all of the students in my last 3 basic pistol courses (CCW) were new or nearly new gun owners

Educational primer
One of these guns were banned from new manufacture between 1994-2004, they could be purchased, traded, sold, and all the new ones made in this period were restricted to law enforcement sales, the other was approved for sale during the ban.

were never banned, only certain features were banned, things like bayonet lugs, and flash hiders,

How many
were in places with "Gun Control"?
Why is there never a successful mass shooting at a police station? Why are the majority of mass shootings in places that put gun control measures in place?
You can say guns kill, but Gun Control makes the killers effective

I'm OK with Hi-Capacity Magazine Bans
I AM NOT OK with bans on standard capacity magazines
On AR-15's, and AK47's standard capacity is 30 rounds, many handguns were designed with standard capacity magazines ranging from 15-20 rounds.
But whatever number they come up with 5 -6 or 10 is a number they yanked out some dark hole where had their head firmly planted
Really they should be thankful that the Arizona killer (alleged) brought a 33 round magazine, that gave an older lady the leverage she needed to wrench it away from him, and be thankful the Colorado killer(alleged) brought a 100 drum magazine that failed or the body count could have been a lot higher.
In truth I'm not OK with a ban on the high capacity magazines ether, but they should not be considered hi-capacity until they exceed the standard capacity of the gun's design.
We as shooters and gun owners, need to quit playing their game, this time the magazine thing could get traction, and we should not give in . but make a point of what is standard and what isn't
We should also make a point that they were in fact never banned outright, they just got more expensive, only standard magazines made after a certain date were banned.

Gun Control is NOT Patriotic
You put a bunch of unarmed people in a building that does not allow guns, in a city that does not allow citizens to legally carry a firearm, so you had gun control
Quote: The Second Amendment of our Constitution was meant to protect us from harm
So when we relieve people of their rights, they have no safeguards from psychopaths
So was it gun control that caused the tragedy?

You don't need a gun
a drum magazine that could fire 50 to 60 rounds per minute.
Ya just need a magazine, although that one is a bit on the slow side

Seen at Wal-mart last night
Colt LE6940 $1097, I was a bit surprised to see a Colt, I'd heard about the Bushmasters, and had seen a SIG 556, but was a bit amazed that a big box discount store would have a Colt.

Thinning the herd
Those that know me, know when I find something I like, I really need more than one.
When I went to the Para Blog Shoot at Blackwater in 2008, I was a Browning High Power guy, and there were 14 of the little darlings in the safe, well 13 I was carrying one.
I found when I got back I could shoot the Para 1911 (9mm) a bit better than the HP, and began buying 1911's in both 9mm and 45, and thinned the Brownings down to 7. Not only did I have a mix of 9mm and 45 but brands as well, Kimber, Para, S&W, Springfield, and even a Charles Daly. Last fall I thinned them down to a 11, as I sold several to pay for a Wilson Combat CQB (9mm).
Well thinning them again, going to sell all but one of the 45's, I'm no spring chicken, nor am I the biggest guy in the room, and after a recent 200 round range session with one of the 45's, I found my groups opening up, and the following day, my hands, wrists, and elbows ached like crazy (Advil gets to be more and more you friend as you get older) The recoil had kicked my butt.
As Harry Callahan said a Man needs to know his limitations,
I plan to keep shooting, and continue to enjoy it for a longtime, just in a smaller caliber
I suppose that JM625 ought to go too.
As to those HP's several are FN made police trade in's, and make great car guns

Something not right with this story
If his weapon was properly holstered how could she have caused it to fire? I'll presume they were standing, so unless it was a shoulder holster how did the round strike her lung then heart?
Update:
I'm not the only one having doubt's that this went down, the way the police said it did
another:
How does a gun pointed at the floor shoot someone in the heart?
