Over/Under self defense
Seems Mossberg is introducing an O/U for home defense under the Maverick line
Price seems to be around $400, I'd think a pump would be more effective, at a lower cost.
CZ has a new auto loader, the 712 for about $50 more, would in my opinion work a lot better
For long gun self defense, I keep the CAR-15 ready, but my closest neighbor is well over 300 yards away, and the exterior walls, and some of the interior walls are 1 foot thick, solid brick construction.

For urban dwellers a SG is likely a better choice

Now, here’s the hard part: after shooting, always take your finger off the trigger, and place it back alongside the frame.
I do see that once the slide locks back they still have finger curled around the trigger, a lot, and I keep reminding them to index.

So after I got the Smith back together, I cleaned the Para LTC, and the Springfield 45, and 5 Browning Buck Marks, 3 Smith and Wesson 22A's, and a High Standard revolver.

Silly Things We Do
I decided that my SW1911PD needed a good cleaning, so I field stripped it and cleaned it, no problem so far, for the life of me I could not get it back together. Everything was fine except I couldn't get the bushing over the full length guide rod. So after fighting it for a while I decided to put a smaller guide rod in, and it went together, but the plug has an open front, test fired one shot, and have what you see below:
Ok that was different, first 1911 I've owned that I assembled the entire upper, then put it on the frame, tricky but can be done. In attempting to reassemble in the normal matter, could not clear recoil rod.

First SD 40 in class
The first Smith & Wesson SD showed up yesterday
The trigger was hard at the last bit of pull, it was difficult not to push the muzzle to the left, I'm sure theres a fix, but it wasn't as nice as the one I checked at the annual meeting in May.

The Smith needed new bushings as the old ones came out with the screws, so I put stainless bushings in, and used hex head stainless screws, the Para got the fancier screws from VZ

If you want a "4" in the caliber
You should just make it a 45 ACP

Today we had our first factory squib load,(UMC) the primer fired, the powder did not. We also had a factory (WWB) 380 auto, round had the bullet nearly buried in the case, right out of the box, making a very small but effective pipe bomb, lucky that the case was so budged out it wouldn't chamber

In Oct. one of my students found 2 rounds of 40 S&W in a box of 9mm 115 gr FMJ's The box was sealed when he arrived, and he did not bring any other ammo with him other than 3 boxes of 9mm.
In November, a student reported he had found 2 rounds of .380 in a box of 9mm.
Update: the squib load of UMC was from an older box, that had not been stored in the best conditions

The did everything right, went to zoning, got the proper permits, built a safe range, and jumped through all the hoops, now the neighbors wanted them shut down, because they do not want those type of people (law abiding persons taking courses) in their neighborhood.
