Crime is not down everywhere

NY paper reports an increase of over 13% in homicides this year, must be Ohio's fault.

Right or Wrong

Do Not touch the gun

If it's in your hand lay it down, or drop it, if it's in the holster do not touch it, keep your hand away from the gun, no matter what the officer(s) tell you.

Poor Training ??

Report released in officers death

The report states a round hit the base of the officers issue weapon, and blew the magazine apart spilling the rounds to the floor, it may have been knocked out of his hands.  It may well have been impossible to do a malfunction drill, if the primary was lost or damaged. But I wonder was he carrying a backup gun? Had he trained with it? or just put it in his pocket? Perhaps his hands were numbed by the impact, and he couldn't feel his backup to pull it.

Not trying to armchair quarterback here, even the best trained, best equipped person can lose in a gunfight. I'll not fault the officer, he likely did everything he could, to survive, but did he have the training to survive? Was he trained to go for the backup if his primary failed, or just told it was a good idea to carry a backup? Does this department allow officers to carry a backup?

When the good guys win, we pat ourselves on the back, of how great the training was, when they lose we need to ask questions, and change the training so it lowers the odds of it happening again

You might try turning on a light

James, you bemoan the fact that certain areas of the country have fewer laws, than you, and people are getting shot in Boston. A law will not curb violence.

Even Washington DC has seen a drop in violent crime, since they loosened the choke collar ever so slightly, after the Heller decision.

Perhaps James you might rail against those restrictive laws that you live under, instead of somehow hoping that dried ink on paper will keep you, and your city safe. Understand what really deters crime is the surety of capture and punishment. If potential victims have something stronger than "Please don't hurt me" you might see that same drop in violence that those other neighorhoods are enjoying. Demand the means to defend your city, demand the rights other Americans enjoy.

Do not infringe on my right of freedom, and I won't infringe on yours to huddle in the dark.

Obama, not after your guns

Is the UN coming for your guns?

Mother Jones says no, so it must be true

President Obama will be speaking today at the UN General Assembly. He is expected to address Nuclear Arms issues, as well as, the Small Arms Treaty.
Keep mind he has not appointed a United States representative to the UN to fill the empty US Seat. I guess he trusts the UN to look after United States interests, without United States Representation on the UN Board.

It was a Close Vote

Canada's gun registry will continue

153 for, 151 for scrapping it

A handful of the meanest looking ones were carefully selected and put on display at press conferences

At a cost of $2 Billion dollars

Somehow having a form in a government file cabinet that says you own a gun will protect women from violence.

Kids & Safety

It is the one area, of gun safety that bothers me most, and in the majority of the cases, it's not fine upstanding adults that allow it to happen.

The beat route to follow, when you have younger kids is to educate, and secure your firearms.

When they are to little to understand keep them secure, and as they begin to mature educate them.

One for the Good Guys

I normally tell people to tread carefully when it comes to a 3rd person altercation, but this one went the right way, and nobody got shot
So why

Do so so many people tell me "I've never owned a gun before, but it's time I did?

Brady's say gun owners are smaller in number than ever before
It Pays to Have a Plan

Relying that your employer will keep you till you retire, is not a plan.

Paying for what you have, instead of buying what you want, is a good idea.

If you have a hobby, can you turn your love into a business, if the 8-5 fails?

What you need versus what you want, most of us have more than we need.

I was lucky, I love guns and shooting, and have been an Instructor for going on 20 years, so I worked during the week and trained on weekends, using the training money for guns, & ammo a few extras. Then 2 years ago when the job ended after 27 years (same building under 3 owners) I mourned for all of one day, and went on to figure out how to expand the training, to pay the bills. I had found the house I wanted in 1993, and paid it off in 2008, cars were all paid for.
Never spent a day looking for a job, and never collected a dime of unemployment, I make about a third of what I did when I was hitting the time clock.

I had a fellow take a class this weekend, he had been here about 4 years ago, when we used the classroom in the house, and the range wasn't more than a 10 foot mound of dirt about 20 feet wide, he said you've come a long way since I was here last, it's really nice. I did feel a bit of pride when I replied "Thank you, and it's paid for too.

But life is better now, it is not about chasing the mighty dollar everyday, it's about doing things that make you happy, that you enjoy, and if you make enough for something extra, that's just icing on the cake.
Could it really be?

Seems the "experts" are puzzled by why crime dropped again last year, when well with the present conditions (The economy, vast layoffs, etc) it should be going up.

But perhaps the real deterrent are the 6 million legally armed citizens carrying with a ccw license, and the news reports of record gun sales all across the country, the bad guys are getting the word, and turning to other means of income?

I'd like to think so.
One of the greatest American inventions in the history of hoorah!

Not quite the icon of the 1911 of the era, but still gets a lot of interest
It took you how long to figure it out?

Guns have more value as guns than they do scrap metal

Selling them would bring money in, whereas paying someone to melt them down, means more money being spent by the city, the real question is why did it take this long to figure it out?, and who hired you?
I'm sure the quality varies from junk to fairly decent, lets say the city could net, oh an average of $50 per gun, that would be well over $300,000 coming in, instead of paying $80,000 out, that's enough stimulus to hire a couple of more officers

The Queen returns

Little Mommie went walk-about 9 days ago, she returned safe this am, balance is restored
Does every family have a crazy uncle?

that will shoot you?
So why do believe gun registration keeps from getting shot?

Cars are registered, that does not keep someone from mowing people down, or from driving under the influence.

At least in the U.S. cars are registered, and drivers are licensed, and you can't get licensed without training, yet 40,000 die every year.

While more Canadian women favor the registery than men, could that be more from lack of knowledge, and more based on emotion?

Missouri Officer Fatally Shot in Training

Officer De Kraai was fatally shot Wednesday during a break in a training session, when one officer accidentally discharged his firearm during a demonstration.

Guns are always loaded, until you know they are unloaded, it does not take much effort to know the difference, double check, triple check, if you do not know the difference do not handle firearms.

Never point a gun at anything you do not intend to destroy

Never put your finger on the trigger, until you have made the decision to shoot

Always install a training barrel, or use a blue training gun (even a cheap air soft) when doing demos, that involve pointing a firearm at a good guy

Firearms are unforgiving when it comes to stupid

I agree

If there are 16 ways to do something, learning one or 2 may be a benefit, but learning all 16, is confusion.
About the same way they shoot bad guys

Although once I saw a state patrolman shoot an injured deer in the head one handed at 35 feet, in the dark, using a mag light, I was most impressed that he made that shot under those conditions one handed.
So how is registering to vote, insurrectionism ?

Seems its a method of working within the system, than outside of it

George Clooney is afraid of guns

“A fear of weapons is a sign of retarded sexual and emotional maturity” -Sigmund Freud

Hoplophobia from the Greek word Hoplon, or weapon, is defined as the "fear of firearms" and as the "fear of armed citizens". Firearms instructor and writer Col. Jeff Cooper claimed to have coined the word in 1962 to describe a "mental disturbance characterized by irrational aversion to weapons".

This is going to get ugly

Gen. David Petraeus warned in an e-mail to The Associated Press that "images of the burning of a Quran would undoubtedly be used by extremists in Afghanistan — and around the world — to inflame public opinion and incite violence."
Man attacked with Bow & Arrow

Must have been an "Assault Bow" the guy was hit 4 times
Mark Drumm, you are an asshat

Drumm also testified that police officers should be allowed to drink in restaurants and/or while consuming because they are "better trained," "better decision makers,"

You have no idea how much training I have, or a single flipping clue of how good a decision maker I am, and you are blowing smoke out of your pie hole.

When police officers are off duty they are not special citizens, they are citizens just like everyone else, and even if their dept. requires them to carry off duty, they are subject to the same laws I am, perhaps the FOP spokesman should read the Constitution.

Oh and since cops are better decision makers than the rest of us, why do they have a higher suicide rate? Why is the divorce rate over 30% higher, among officers, if they are such astute decision makers?

In-Custody Deaths Increased 6 Times after Tasers Were Introduced

But after the first year of use, taper back to around the normal level, the thrill of the new gadget having waned
Bottom line: Criminals don't register firearms

Didn't one of the courts rule that convicted felons are exempt from registering guns? It violates their 5th Ammendent rights, course I'm not sure thats the case in Canada
